ToggleThe morning sickness that is vomiting or feeling like vomiting may disappear. However, other symptoms will appear like heartburn, leg cramps, and engorged veins among others. You can feel your baby around week 20. The baby will be able to hear your voice and surrounding sounds.
By this time, your baby is big enough and almost all organs begin to work. You should learn everything about the delivery and care of the baby. You can also think about the name of your coming baby.
Second Trimester Symptoms
The stage is often referred to as the honeymoon because it is the most comfortable of the three trimesters. However, you will note that the baby is playful and you can feel the kicks. Your body changes further as the baby develops. You gain more weight as the baby gains additional pounds.
Some symptoms from the first trimester like constipation and heartburn may persist. Other symptoms include sensitive gums, congestion, mild swelling around the ankles and feet, and leg cramps. Some women feel dizzy and experience some pains on the lower abdomen. Mild pains are normal.
You may be irritable and apprehensive at this stage. You might also forget things but all these feelings are temporal. However, any signs of diabetes, heavy bleeding, high fever, or severe abdominal need your doctor’s attention.
Baby Development during this Trimester
Babies develop their taste at this stage. Tiny hairs begin to develop together with eyebrows and eyelashes by week 22. The digestive system is also formed and the baby begins to prepare to feed outside the womb. The sense of smell, hearing, and seeing develop by week as well.
The baby tries to open the newly developed eyes often. By week 26, the baby’s brain is developing in a way that it can control the heartbeat and initiate kicks. By the end of the 2nd trimester, your baby is about 2 pounds.
